Germany’s first quantum physics-themed escape room for youngsters—Kitty Q at Technische Sammlungen Dresden—has added more available slots just in time for Saxony’s fall break.

An international team led by the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat has now made remarkable progress with an experiment conducted at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR): The experts were able to induce an extremely fast switching process between electrically neutral and charged luminescent particles in an ultra-thin, effectively two-dimensional material. Published in Nature Photonics.

About 250 scientists from 14 countries will explore the latest findings from pioneering global research at the International Conference on Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter CT.QMAT24 in Dresden from September 23 to 27, 2024.

Researchers from the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat have developed a method to model a central theory of quantum gravity in the laboratory. Their goal: to decipher previously unexplained phenomena in the quantum world.

The Würzburg-Dresden Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat hosted a German-Japanese workshop on February 26 and 27, 2024, setting the course for close collaboration between researchers from both countries. Around 70 participants from Germany and Japan convened in Würzburg to discuss their latest findings in quantum physics research. Organized by ct.qmat and supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), the workshop delved into areas such as topology, photonics, magnetism, and the dynamics of electron correlation in solids. This exchange of ideas paved the way for joint projects in the coming years.

The Würzburg-Dresden Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat has recently celebrated a significant achievement with its 1000th publication. To mark this achievement, the authors will receive a trophy at the Cluster Retreat in Weimar at the end of March 2024.
